The Colon Powel Bounce!

It seems that mere hours after Colon Powell offered his "thoughtful" endorsement of Obama he has already induced a bounce for Obama, who happens to be slipping in the polls.

More interesting was Mr. Powell's reasoning: That "even if" Obama was a Muslim, why should that matter?  Further, his opinion that John McCain's campaign has been smear happy.

What little respect I had for Mr. Powell evaporated.  I had hoped he would take the high road and avoid endorsing either candidate.  The propaganda usage of his endorsement is so obvious I had hoped he'd opt out.  Instead, he sunk in for whatever reasons he truly has.

The charge that John McCain's campaign has been disgraceful, however, is empty.  Mr. Obama's campaign, on the other hand, is guilty of fostering personal attacks of grand purportions against Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.  We heard rumor after rumor, charge after charge against her and her family.  Ad hominem attacks keep coming to anyone brave enough to stand up and question Barak's silly policy positions (which, by the way, seem lifted from Karl Marx, or Groucho as the case may be).

Let's recap: Sarah Palin didn't give birth to her down syndrome kid--she's hiding her daughter's sleeping habits.  Sarah Palin guns down wolves from a helicopter. Sarah Palin used her office to fire a trooper illegally.  Sarah Palin has no experience (that, from Obama's camp is the most hilarious).  Sarah Palin is another Dan Quayle.  Sarah Palin is stupid because she believes in God (or she's just bitter, but we'll need to clarify that one).  Joe the Plumber isn't REALLY a plumber!  Joe doesn't make $250,000/year (so he really should support Obama).  Joe owes back taxes (which means he's not patriotic, according to Mr. Biden--or it puts him on par to run for Senator of Minnesota e.g. Al Franken).

Did I miss any?  Probably.  I have a hard time keeping up with the mindless onslaught of attacks against anyone who generates excitement among the hard working folks called Americans.

So, will Colon produce a bounce, as Time is already declaring, for Barak Obama?  I seriously doubt it.  Not without the pollster's help.  It appears that over the weekend the national average of all polls has Obama's lead shrinking to 5%.  With two weeks to go, and more scrutiny from voters, Obama's socialist plans will unravel any "landslide" he hoped to achieve.

Sure sign it isn't over

I can recall, not too long ago, that op-ed after op-ed was declaring what Barak Obama failed to do in his campaign.  The op-eds and assorted articles were responding to how fast John McCain had taken in the polls.  It was early September and the conservative base was on fire.  People flocked to see Sarah Palin and John McCain and they put Barak Obama on defense something fierce.  Minnesota, of all places, was within a couple points' reach for McCain.  Michigan, too, had jumped into play along with Pensilvannia.

Barak Obama and his willing accomplices in the MSM went on a long and nasty war against Sarah Palin (which leaves me wondering how they take such a high ground position against John McCain with regard to negative ads).  Week after week the world was treated to how terrible Sarah was and how McCain had shown his senility.  Oh, and that's right, he's old, leaving her a 'heartbeat away from the presidency.'

None of this onslaught has changed Sarah's appeal.  Rather, the financial crisis induced a knee-jerk reaction against Republicans of every stripe.  And still, some polls only have McCain down by two to three percentage points.

This leads me to my next item of interest:  I wonder how much the media, in its gameplan to help Obama, is cooking the data to favor their candidate.  It isn't like this would be new territory for polsters.

Despite these insurmountable polls, we keep hearing story after story about how miserable McCain and Palin are.  Voters are 'souring' to McCain-Obama stays steady.  If the polls are acurate, why all the blatant headlines?  Why not write about whether McCain's strategy will make a comeback?  Why not write stories about why some still support him?  Those might be interesting news pieces in light of such an impending landslide.

In short, if McCain is basically a dead candidate walking, why are the MSM and Obama's camp still kicking him?

I suspect they know that elections have been extremely closer in the past 30+ years than they like to remember.  They like to pretend that George W. Bush didn't win by the largest popular vote in history in 2004.  They like to forget that despite the polls, Hillary routed Obama in all the big states, particularly at the end.

While it is entirely possible the polls are tapping into an angry populace that does appear to back Obama for now, things can change in two weeks.  Things can even change in the voting booth.

Jobs, Baby Jobs!

It was interesting to read what those clever Clintons devised with regard to our battle cry, "Drill, baby drill."  But it is more interesting since they don't propose a single leadership initiative that will foster job creation!

Barak Obama's dear wife Michelle states unequivocally that "Barak gets it."  But he tells folks on the campaign trail that "spreading the wealth around" through government taxation and credits is "good for everybody."  Except, perhaps, the sap who strove to achieve that "super-wealthy" status.

In the remaining, nail-biting days to November 4, 2008, Americans should increasingly realize that the Smooth Operator Obama is nothing shy of an anti-free market, free-trade Socialist.  A friend of mine, and supporter of Mr. Obama, feels that nothing better could happen than the demise of the free market.  He wholeheartedly identifies himself as a Socialist.  He, in fact, doesn't believe Barak is far enough to the left.

This election is not about chosing a great leader.  We don't have two contenders.  But we have one who stands to effect great damage on the country and culture we love.  We have one who believes in government forced wealth-spreading.  We have one who believes the solution to our problem isn't to be fiscally responsible, but to borrow more from China and Russia in an effort to join them in their communist paradigms.

The solution is certainly jobs, baby jobs.  But jobs come from businesses having the leeway to expand, not incentives to contract or move to a more friendly country.  Jobs will come when we have a free market that is back in line with predictable expectations (e.g. if you can't afford a house, you can't buy it).  Our jobs will return in great numbers when the government shows restraint and cuts the budget and pays down the debt.

The only candidate talking about a budget freeze and fiscal conservatism is John McCain.  His proposal is the most Herculean because it has seldom been tried.  Socialism, however, has been an alarmingly tantalizing solution for our government.  With Barak Obama we'll just get more of the same.

What Matters to America

Last night Barak Obama tried to poison the well of John McCain by claiming the Arizona Senator wasn't "talking about" what concerned America.  Arguably, they both were talking about what should concern us, for better or for worse.

Americans should be concerned about a man with radical allies who have propelled him up the political ladder faster than any other candidate in modern times.  Americans should take into acount such radicals as Bill Ayres and Reverend Wright in light of the social agenda that Mr. Obama has outlined.  His "spread the wealth around" comment to a plumber who just wants to realize the American Dream reveals that Obama, like Kerry, like Gore, like every other democrat, believes in the redistribution of wealth from those who work hard and are successful to those who don't and aren't.

My sincere hope is that, like most of the time, American's will get this one right.  In the end, our fragile economy cannot withstand the added assault from Barak Obama's Socialist policies.  There is a reason why, despite our debt, the world economy rests on America's shoulders.  This gives us a greater responsibility not to follow Europe down the path of economic malaise, but rather restrain our government, pay down our debt and strengthen our dollar.

Finally, before voting this November 4th, Americans should just think about the fact that the economic crisis began because Jimmy Carter, then Bill Clinton, and the Democrats in congress felt it was "social justice" to give the American Dream of a home to those who had not worked hard to earn it.  Now, as a fix, Barak Obama thinks he should tax away the American Dream that is within grasp of hard working Americans who have earned it and "spread the wealth around."

Americans are concerned about such foreign solutions to our problems.

What Are Family Values?

Every election cycle we hear about values.  Valuing the poor and downtrodden.  Valuing our families, our children.  Family values of tax policy, foreign policy and so on.  All this talk of 'values' leaves us to ponder, what do we conservatives mean by Family Values?

In order for the Republican party to realign its base and build a winning coalition, it needs to answer this question.  According to Pat Bucannan, the Nixon/Reagan conservative movement was based on white, working folks.  The answer to this question was rooted among that demographic and the Republican leadership relied on it.  Unfortunately, demographics change and leave a particular paradigm behind.

It is important, then, for the younger Republicans, those of us who grew up in the Reagan years and started voting during the Clinton and Bush years to clearly define what Family Values entails, and how that should win over more than just the narrowing demographic of white working Americans.

Family values is specific, and does not specifically address taxes and foreign policy.  Rather, it is primarily a social issue related to the fiber of our national culture.  These values cannot be treated as fluid or time sensitive.  They should be the bedrock of our belief system and should inform every aspect of how we govern or legislate.

These values come from God.  God ordained that a man and a woman should become one and raise children, remaining faithful for the protection of the nuclear family.  This simple outline includes the understanding that 1) Men and women should respect one another and hold eachother in high, personal regard with the exclusion of all others.  2) Life is sacred and nurturing life is the primary mission of a married couple (whether they can have children or not, treasuring life and nurturing a society that loves and protects children is every man and woman's calling).  3) Providing for one another is our responsibility on the family level.

Taking these three points, we can conclude that the Democratic party has no grasp on family values.  They wish to tear down the Divine ordination of marriage.  They do not hold men and women as equal partners in a sacred union (but rather pit the genders against one another in a duel of dominance).  They scorn life to the point of letting babies die in hospital storage closets.  They disown the idea that families should bear the responsibility to work and provide for themselves (favoring the idea that people should be slaves to a government that doles out wellfare checks).

Conservatives need to pick up the mantle of true family values.  They need to live these values out.  They need to challenge each other to remain faithful to these values.  When a leader rises who holds these truths close, the opposition will have no argument that can win.

Big Daddy Gov

It amazes me that Barak Obama is running ahead in the poles as a result of the economic turmoil.  Contrary to his lie that it happened because of de-regulation, it happened from the opposite--Government intervention in the free market!  John McCain would do well to say this over and over.

One problem, he's for more government intervention.  This makes him look and sound just like Barak Obama, only older and supposedly wiser.  Rather than come out blazing in his debate, angry at Barak and the liberals who forced us into this mess, he served up more of the same--a 300 billion bailout of troubled mortgages.

The problems we face are Socialist in nature.  A social remedy allowed unqualified borrowers to get into homes.  The surge in the market drove the price of homes up and allowed banks to write lines of credit like they were going out of style.  In fact, they were going out of style.  As soon as the mortgages started to default, the spreading cataclysm left banks with devalued assets because of the shrinking demand and a growing supply.

The government had choices that would have fit in a free market solution.  They could have cut the capital gains tax, the corporate tax, and eliminated the mark to market rule.  This suspension would only need to be temporary in order to revitalize business.

Rather, Bush, a self-proclaimed free market "guy" has ushered in the largest act of Socialism we've ever witnessed.  I'd expect this from a liberal along the lines of, say, Barak Obama, but not George W. Bush.

Big government got us into this mess, bigger government won't fix it.

If John McCain hopes to regain his Maverick image, he should abandon these notions of Socialist bailout and embrace the obvious fact that we're all going to have to pay the price in the market one way or another.  But in the end, the market will purge the bad credit and build on better foundations.  So long as government stays out of the mix.

William Ayres is Still Bombing!

What seems to get lost in the discussion of the seriousness of Barak Obama's friend and ally Bill Ayres is the clear and present danger he poses.  For many, the explanation that Mr. Ayres is simply a "guy in the neighborhood" seems valid.  Who among us would want to be charged with guilt by association for some loon that lives next door.

Of course, Bill Ayres is not simply a good neighbor who waves and chats over the fence.  Rather, he is someone closely aligned with Barak Obama in ideology and mission.  But the defense is misleading, while also plausibly innocent:  Bill Ayres and Barak Obama worked together on foundations for school reform.  Mr. Ayres, after all, is simply an educator.

The title of teacher or professor seems to imply that Bill Ayres has reformed his wild, youthful folly.  In fact, he has simply turned from designing bombs with nails and explosives to building a far more devastating bomb.  He has moved from threatening the flesh to threatening a vast greater number of minds and souls.

The ideology that drives men like Ayres and Obama is one of atheism.  They do not believe in a higher power, or our responsibility toward God.  They also do not believe, or so they profess, in sin nature, or our bent toward greed and evil.  To these revolutionaries, the utopia of Socialism and a unified State is held back by men who have been corrupted by their desire for money.  These rebels also believe, or claim to believe they are devoid of this marring desire.

Thus, they come across as peaceful men with a desire for a cleaner world and one in which all humanity lives with what they need rather than what they want.  And the only way to achieve this ideal, since most realize this utopia is a pipe dream, at best, is to force it by revolution.

Early in his life, Bill Ayres set bombs to force a violent revolution.  He has admitted he wished he did more.  But now he sets new bombs.  He plants them in the heads of young people out on their own for the first time.  He's molding impressionable students who see him, not as a domestic terrorist, but as a person of authority.

The danger is real.  Barak Obama did not ally himself with this man by some coincidence.
