Showing Some Spine

Recently Michelle Bachman of MN apologized for her comments that she felt Barak Obama may have anti-American sentiments.  Granted, her words were twisted into a McCarthy-ite manner in which she called for Congressional Hearings of these nefarious folks.  Of course that wasn't true and she really should have laughed it off, shook her head and put out a statement that it is not she who goes on ad-homimem witch-hunts like the sort railed against Sarah Palin.

Rather than back down from her statement, she should have clarified why she feels he may harbor anti-American ideals.  She had the nation's spotlight--she could have told everyone her concerns about him sitting and admiring the hate-monger Jeremiah Wright.  She might have mentioned his long history of identifying with and co-opting programs with socialist and anarchist radicals like William Ayres and Bernadine Dorn.  It was a great chance to point out that Barak Obama has long espoused the notion of "spreading the wealth around."

The list of things she might have underscored are numerous.  She could have taken the shot that Chris Matthews intended and turned it around for her own bully pulpit to point out the simple fact that Barak Obama IS anti-American and we should all be concerned about it.

She didn't need to reference the accusation of her wanting an investigation--that was just silly.  Ignore stupidity.  Underscore the real issue and she would have walked away ten feet taller with much greater political clout.

For as long as recorded history unscrupulous men and women have sought to undermine those of us with firm convictions and righteous desires.  My Christian worldview dictates what is quite obvious: The world is on the villain's side.  But God is driving the virtuous.  Thus, we need not fear when they hurl their attacks over our wardrobe or how many children we have.  We shouldn't back down when they lob a Global Warming question our way.  We shouldn't tremble when asked if we think the world is six thousand years old or if dinosaurs co-existed with humans.

No, we should stand on our faith, stand on principle, and remind these mongrels that their drive-by pot-shots don't frighten us.  We live in a nation that was founded on the principle of In God We Trust.  Despite their venom and vitriol, the majority of Americans still hold that foundation dear.
