It seems that mere hours after Colon Powell offered his "thoughtful" endorsement of Obama he has already induced a bounce for Obama, who happens to be slipping in the polls.
More interesting was Mr. Powell's reasoning: That "even if" Obama was a Muslim, why should that matter? Further, his opinion that John McCain's campaign has been smear happy.
What little respect I had for Mr. Powell evaporated. I had hoped he would take the high road and avoid endorsing either candidate. The propaganda usage of his endorsement is so obvious I had hoped he'd opt out. Instead, he sunk in for whatever reasons he truly has.
The charge that John McCain's campaign has been disgraceful, however, is empty. Mr. Obama's campaign, on the other hand, is guilty of fostering personal attacks of grand purportions against Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. We heard rumor after rumor, charge after charge against her and her family. Ad hominem attacks keep coming to anyone brave enough to stand up and question Barak's silly policy positions (which, by the way, seem lifted from Karl Marx, or Groucho as the case may be).
Let's recap: Sarah Palin didn't give birth to her down syndrome kid--she's hiding her daughter's sleeping habits. Sarah Palin guns down wolves from a helicopter. Sarah Palin used her office to fire a trooper illegally. Sarah Palin has no experience (that, from Obama's camp is the most hilarious). Sarah Palin is another Dan Quayle. Sarah Palin is stupid because she believes in God (or she's just bitter, but we'll need to clarify that one). Joe the Plumber isn't REALLY a plumber! Joe doesn't make $250,000/year (so he really should support Obama). Joe owes back taxes (which means he's not patriotic, according to Mr. Biden--or it puts him on par to run for Senator of Minnesota e.g. Al Franken).
Did I miss any? Probably. I have a hard time keeping up with the mindless onslaught of attacks against anyone who generates excitement among the hard working folks called Americans.
So, will Colon produce a bounce, as Time is already declaring, for Barak Obama? I seriously doubt it. Not without the pollster's help. It appears that over the weekend the national average of all polls has Obama's lead shrinking to 5%. With two weeks to go, and more scrutiny from voters, Obama's socialist plans will unravel any "landslide" he hoped to achieve.
